The new Milne Bay Teachers College in Alotau District is gearing up to welcome its first batch of students in early 2025 after receiving approval for its operating license. Now listed in the National Online Application System, the college provides a new academic choice for school leavers in the province, marking an important milestone for Milne Bay’s educational sector.

Principal Philemon Antonio, recently appointed to lead the college, announced the beginning of faculty recruitment, aiming to bring together a skilled team to launch the institution. According to Mr. Antonio, classes will commence in 2025 with a focus on serving local students and supporting the educational needs of the Milne Bay community.

A collaboration between the Milne Bay Provincial Government and the Catholic Church, which provided land for the college, has made this project possible. The partnership underscores a commitment to enhance teacher education and local educational opportunities.
The newly formed governing council, chaired by the provincial administrator, has begun organizing subcommittees to ensure the smooth operation of the college. Initial enrollment will be restricted to students from within the province, allowing the college to establish its foundations in its inaugural years.
